CalArts, CAP Students Screen Films at San Diego Comic-Con

On Sunday (July 12), nine CalArts and CalArts’ Community Arts Partnership (CAP) students screen their short films at theSan Diego International Children’s Film Festival’s Young Filmmakers Animation Showcase, which is being held in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con. The showcase highlights work by high school and college animators.

CalArts students Stephanie Delazeri (Film/Video BFA 18), Ben Hunter (Film/Video BFA 18) and Wylder Tomlinson (Film/Video BFA 17) were all CAP students, beginning to animate at age 10 in CAP’s Sony Pictures Media Arts Program (SPMAP) at the Center for the Arts Eagle Rock. Hunter is also a current CAP instructor.

Alejandro Vega, Miguel Vega, Isaiah Ferguson, Alex Garza, Emma D’Atri and Nick Mastroangelo are currently enrolled in the CAP Advanced High School Animation Program at the School of History and Dramatic Arts in Glassell Park. Mastroangelo has shown his animation at Comic-Con for the past four years and is the youngest person to have ever screened work at this event.

CAP links CalArts with the diverse communities in LA County through tuition-free, after-school, summer and school-based arts programs. These alumni- and faculty-mentored programs provide in-depth arts training in visual, performing, literary and media arts.
