CalArtians Win Creative Arts Emmys

While the 2016 Primetime Emmys ceremony won’t be held until Sunday (Sept. 18), the Television Academy handed out the Juried and Creative Arts Award Emmys this past weekend in two ceremonies at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

Outstanding Individual Achievement In Animation (Juried)
He Named Me Malala

  • Jason Carpenter (Film/Video MFA 06), was honored for his work on the National Geographic Channel’s He Named Me Malala, for which he served as the animation supervisor/production designer. There were four other animation artists honored in the juried category, including Jason Kolowski and Tom Herpich for separate episodes of Adventure Time, a Cartoon Netowrk program created by Pendleton Ward (Film/Video BFA 05). 

Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Series
The Voice, “Episode 917A”

  • Lighting Director Daniel K. Boland (Theater BFA 95) and Media Server Operator Johnny Bradley (Theater BFA 07) won for their work on The Voice.

  • A number of CalArtians were integral to the now Emmy Award-winning project: Video director Jeff Teeter (Theater BFA 06), art director David Offner (Theater MFA 05), art/production coordinator Amanda Smith (Theater MFA 11), set designer Giao-Chau Ly (Theater MFA 11), sensor tech Kevin Goold (theater faculty), motion capture engineer Nick Suda (Music MFA 14) and motion capture actors Rachel Ho (Film/Video BFA 14), Jake Harkey (Dance BFA 15), Rebecca Green (Dance BFA 15) and Mireya Lucio (Theater MFA 11).
