Isaura String Quartet to Perform at Human Resources LA

The Isaura String Quartet (ISQ) presents an evening of music at Human Resources LA in Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday (Feb. 18), performing works by CalArts alum Amy Golden (Music MFA 16), Music Faculty Ulrich Krieger as well as Nicole Lizée, Caroline Shaw and Scott Worthington.

The members of the LA-based quartet are all CalArts alumnae: Violin players Emily Call (Music MFA 13) and Madeline Falcone (Music MFA 13); cellist Betsy Rettig (Music MFA 12); and guest violist Rachel Iba (Music MFA 17). Through their repertoire of both traditional and contemporary chamber music, ISQ promotes interdisciplinary practices through live performance, workshops and collaborative projects with composers and other artists.

Dedicated to the promotion of contemporary chamber music through live performance, workshops and collaborative projects, ISQ has previously worked with composers including David T. Little, Gloria Coates, Julia Wolfe, Sean Griffin, Music Faculty Anne LeBaron and artist and Art Faculty Charles Gaines.

Recent performances include Artaud in the Black Lodge with Beth Morrison Productions at REDCAT’s NOW Festival, the world premiere of Gloria Coates’ chamber opera Stolen Identity; a concert of microtonal string quartets for MicroFest LA; and Love, Honor, Obey with Timur and Margaret Cho. ISQ is also featured on Refractions, Daniel Corral’s (Music MFA 07) concert-length work for string quartet, processed music box and guitar released in 2017 on Populist Records.

In addition to ISQ’s work in new music, they are the house band for Emo Nite LA under the alias String String Quartet and have performed with artists including the All-American Rejects and Demi Lovato. They have also performed and recorded with artists such as Baths, Emily Wells and Jherek Bischoff.

The performance at the Human Resources LA begins at 8 pm. Tickets will be available at the door for $10 cash or pay what you can—no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
