Here’s another highlight video from the alumni forums at CalArts Weekend 2017 (excerpt above).
The second featured forum, A Collaborative Community, brought together a number of CalArtians who worked together on Jared Januschka’s (Theater BFA 11) first feature film, Shooting in Vain, which premiered in June 2018 at the Dances with Films festival in Los Angeles, ultimately winning the Grand Jury Award.
School of Film/Video faculty Deborah Lavine sat down with Januschka, Graphic Designer Timothy Garrett (Art BFA 08), Film Composer Robert (Bob) Allaire (Music MFA 09) and Scenic Designer Prerna Chawla (Theater MFA 12) to talk about the making of the film.
Written by Januschka’s father, D.H. Nelson, Shooting in Vain follows Max, a guilt-ridden artist, who returns home searching for answers to the mysterious circumstances surrounding his high school sweetheart’s death. The film was conceived to help people, especially teenagers, resist the temptation of opioid abuse. To watch the full-length forum, visit CalArts YouTube channel.
More information and tickets for this year’s CalArts Weekend can be found on its event site. Early bird registration ends tonight (Oct. 1).
