The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts announced the recipients of its 2018 Arts Writers Grant Program on Monday, Dec. 3.
Among the 21 grantees for the foundation’s 2018 cycle are: Ashley Hunt, CalArts School of Art faculty; and alumni Bradford Nordeen (Art MFA 05), Eric Golo Stone (Art MFA 05) and Malik Gaines (Critical Studies MFA 99).
Administered by Creative Capital, the foundation is awarding $725,000 in grants to the recipients, ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in four categories—articles, blogs, books and short-form writing—for both general and specialized art audiences.
The titles of the projects awarded are:
- Ashley Hunt, The Political Economy of the Prison in Contemporary Art Exhibitions (Articles)
- Bradford Nordeen, Memorabilia: Queer Countercultures and Moving Image Art (Blogs)
- Malik Gaines, Future Ruins: The Art of Abstractive Democracy (Books)
- Eric Golo Stone, Artist Contracts in the Political Economy (Books).
The program was launched in 2006 by the Warhol Foundation to support independent, progressive arts publications and individual arts writers. Past CalArtian recipients include faculty members Janet Sarbanes and Michael Ned Holte, and alums Andrew Berardini (Critical Studies MFA 06), Mira Schor (Art MFA 73), Travis Diehl (Art MFA 10) and Edgar Arceneaux (Art MFA 01).
