On Feb. 9, the Wild Art Group, founded by CalArts alum Allison M. Keating (Theater MFA 14), presents On Death, an experimental theater performance, at Pollution.tv Studios in Los Angeles.
On Death is Keating’s exploration of existential hopelessness as felt in the wake of a friend’s suicide and the current American presidency. Viewers are ultimately asked to confront and celebrate life’s fleetingness. To reflect on this theme further, the performance will be captured using a pre-1912 method of printing film stills onto paper to create a material object that will outlive the live performance.
On Death is created, directed and produced by Keating. A number of CalArtians are also featured in the cast and crew, including performers Shawn Brown (Theater MFA 16) and Kristin Tripe (Theater MFA 16), composer Paul Nabil Matthis (Music MFA 13), costume and puppet designer Alexandra Friedman (Theater MFA 16) and lighting designer R.S. Buck (Theater MFA 18).
Additional performers include Katie McKewin and Murphy Martin.
Visual artist, director and curator Keating founded Wild Art Group in 2015. Driven by the desire to create a more tolerant society, the Wild Art Group creates experimental works that examine and question current events and promote community engagement.
