Student Choice Dance Concert Showcases New CalArts Choreography

This weekend (Oct. 17-18), The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts presents its annual Student Choice Dance Concert—a concert of work choreographed and curated by MFA and BFA students. The performances start at 8 pm in the Sharon Disney Lund Dance Theatre.

The concert showcases pieces by MFA 1 choreographers Kira Blazek, Leslie Scott and Lily Kind. Works by BFA 4 choreographers Jenna Eady, Jake Harkey, Tariq Mitri, Brance Souza, and BFA 3 dance artists Mallory Fabian and Kearian Giertz are also featured in the program.

BFA-2 Solo Dance Concert – Lund Theater

This annual concert is comprised of solo works created by the second year BFA students under the direction of faculty Julie Bour.

Noon(ish) Dance Concert – Lund Theater

  • Nov. 25, 12:30 pm

This afternoon concert will include new works by BFA students as curated by the second year MFA students.

Winter Dance Concert – Modular Theater

Winter Dance Concert – REDCAT

  • Dec. 12-13, 8:30pm

The Winter Dance Concert will include three world premieres by Herb Alpert Award winner and tap dancer Michelle Dorrance, CalArts alum and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Jonathan Fredrickson (BFA 06) and CalArts faculty member Laurence Blake. Dorrance will premiere an ensemble work highlighting tap and body rhythm, Fredrickson will unveil a new trio and Blake will debut a new ensemble piece.
