The Feldstärke International Program set up shop at CalArts this week, bringing together students from programs in Germany, France and CalArts to foster international collaboration and interdisciplinary work among the 45 participating artists.
Supported by the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the City of Paris, the French-German Youth Office, the Goethe Institut-Los Angeles, as well as the Cultural Services of the French and the German Consulates in Los Angeles by means of the French-German Fund, program participants spent a week in Paris in January, a week in Essen, Germany, in June, and this week in Los Angeles. CalArts is the last site for the year-long program, and the week culminates in various public performances, exhibits and installations throughout the campus on Saturday night.
24700 interviewed Martin Kersels, co-director of the Program of Art at CalArts, and one of the mentors of Feldstärke on campus (above). We also had a chance to drop in on a few students as they were constructing a bus from corrugated material (below).
