At the Bijou: Structuring Strategies with Paul Vester Tonight

Tonight, the School of Film/Video’s Structuring Strategies class and screening series welcomes Paul Vester, CalArts’ co-director of Experimental Animation.

Although Vester began teaching at CalArts in 2002 (as a visiting faculty member), his filmmaking career spans more than three decades, beginning in London, England, where he opened his own production company, Speedy Films, in 1973. It was during this early period that Vester worked on commercials, music videos and his own films while teaching at a number of schools in London, including the Surrey Institute of Art and Design and Central School of Art.

We posted, above, an animated short of Vester’s called Sunbeam (1980), which was screened in the UK with the feature film release of Chariots of Fire in 1981. The animation is just a sample of what Vester might have in store for the audience at tonight’s lecture.
