Pacific Standard Time: Jason Schwartzman and John Baldessari

Pacific Standard Time, an unprecedented, six-month exploration of the art of Los Angeles, officially launches this weekend (Oct. 1-2).

Jason Schwartzman and John BaldessariAn initiative of the Getty, the collaborative project brings together more than 60 cultural institutions and museums throughout Southern California, celebrating the current LA art scene and major art movements from 1945 to 1980.

CalArts alumni and faculty have played major roles in the development of Los Angeles as a cultural hub, and throughout PST’s run, 24700 will explore various facets of the project and contributions by CalArtians and Chouinard alumni.

Organizers of Pacific Standard Time have created a series of videos that pair culturally influential Angelenos of different generations to discuss LA’s ascendance in the art world.

In the video above, “Schwartzman Celebrates Baldessari,” actor Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore) talks art with the [literally] larger-than-life, former CalArts faculty John Baldessari (Chouinard 59).
