Artforum Hosts CalArtian Art MFA Thesis Exhibitions

The COVID-19 pandemic put a stopper on MFA thesis shows across the nation, spurring artists to move their projects from physical spaces to virtual ones. This month, works from CalArts’ MFA programs in Art, Photography and Media, and Art and Technology will be hosted by contemporary art magazine Artforum’s online edition.

The website’s newly designed “Spotlight” section features a selection of international galleries that showcase exhibitions that had been shut down due to COVID-19. Artforum then created “MFA Spotlights”—an equivalent platform designed specifically for universities seeking to showcase MFA student work to an international audience. CalArts’ MFA Spotlight exhibition will be open through the end of August.

Check out the eclectic works of the following CalArtians (all Art MFA 20), in the exhibition and beyond: Alia Ali, Casey Baden, Claire Chambless, Woohee Cho, Sophia Daud, Jenny Eom, Holly Harrell, Sterling Hedges, Stephanie Mei Huang, Erin Kapor, Lucy Kerr, Mia Yao Meng, Morgan Ogilvie, Minga Opazo, Alexeis Reyes, Hannah Rubin, Michelle K. Sauer, Andrew Siedenburg, Lillian Liyuan Yang, Evelyn Hang Yin, and Jiayu Zhang.

Several of the aforementioned CalArtians were also featured in digital arts magazine Hyperallergic’s recent showcase of standout MFA work from CalArts and Otis College of Art and Design, recognized as two of Los Angeles’ most notable art schools.

In addition to CalArts, Artforum’s MFA Spotlight series also hosts works from Columbia University School of the Arts (also includes first-year exhibitions) and the University of New Mexico.
